I bought a beautiful tri- level house built in 1960. The house was built by a important contributor to our community. The house retains its clean lines and subtle sophistication. The house is modest in size with 3 bedrooms but features elements of upscale living. The house is situated in the oldest part of town among some of the cities most elegant homes. I have never decorated in contemporary before usually i lean more towards traditional. I have spent this last year researching contemporary design. I love to find a bargain.
Last week i went to a thrift store in Lansing Michigan and bought 2 matching ceramic lamps for $10.01 each. As i approached the isle with lamps i noticed them on the top shelf of the next isle. I caught my breath, made myself go down the whole isle to the end come up the next row ending at the lamps. Loved them, had to have them. Both needed work. My husband has had a hard time adapting to this new style design. His first impression of the lamps was "whatever"! i could see past the 30 years of crud unmatched halos, metallic bases and tarnished brass. i saw the elements i had seen in catalogs like Crate And Barrel and West Elm. My son rewired them, i scrubbed them down went to Wal-mart and bought 2 dark brown low sheen satin bell shades on clearance for $9.00 each originally priced at 19.97 each. I can't stop looking at them! Every time i see them i behold their beauty! I am impressed with how the elements of their shapes color and design came together for the perfect lamps for my new living room! i figured out it does not matter if other people understand or like contemporary decorating it really is about what you enjoy and what gets you excited about the hunt for bargains and the perfect piece.
i was surprised to discover that i was way behind a trend that has swept through America.
